This week went very well. I've been working on the Puffin Foundation grant for our new studio space. It's called Studio-X and will be the home of our New Playwright's Series, Studio X-hibition. We've been going over the grant guidelines and Puffin's mission statement to see if we fit in. I spent Tuesday and Thursday researching our neighborhood, the Passyunk Square area of South Philly. It appears as though we are lower middle-class, but not lower class. We do plan on starting theatre classes for kids and teens in the near future and renting out the space for community groups who have need for it.
Today I went through the list of our playwrights who are involved in the Studio-X program for next year. One of our playwrights fit the bill and I spent a good portion of today working on the first part of the Puffin grant. 2nd week there and I'm already writing.
I have to say that the people at Theatre Exile are great to work with. I'm enjoying myself and learning so much. Deb made a point to show me all the copies she had to make of a government grant paperwork. It seems as though they'll tell you to make a certain number of copies one time and then change how things are done the next. So you need to be on the look-out for that.
Deb also took me with her to the PEW foundation offices to drop off some paperwork, there was someone she was hoping to introduce me to, and she did. Fran(can't remember her last name). She is charge of the arts grants and Deb wanted me to meet her, in case I run into her again I can say hi.
Over all this was a great week at Theatre Exile.
